Associate Professor Amity Campbell specialises in movement analysis, advanced biomechanics and the application of measurement technologies to understand health pathologies and outcomes, including laboratory-based systems and state-of-the-art field-based sensor systems. Amity will apply her unique skill set to the Healthy and Educated Child programs, developing and validating objective measurement methods to track the screen habits of young children. She hopes her work in the Centre will allow us to better understand the impact of digital devices (and traditional play) on children’s health and wellbeing.

Amity has been involved in national and international collaborations focussed on the use of digital devices by children and the novel application of machine learning to sensor-based systems, including a study on the physical implications of device use compared to TV-watching and toy-playing and a comparison of movement patterns of children playing table tennis on gaming consoles and real-world play. Amity is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science, Curtin University.

My earliest digital memory (apart from television) is a Sega mega drive electronic game device. We would ride our bikes to the video store to hire the latest games!
