Barbara Biggins OAM CF

Barbara Biggins OAM CF has been an advocate for children’s interests in relation to the media since 1973. Barbara will provide ongoing Web of Science search citations in fields related to children’s use of screens to ensure members are well informed of the latest in literature in the field. She will also share extensive experience and expertise as an advocate for provision of quality age-appropriate media experiences for children, and for the provision of evidence-based effective protections for children in their media environment. Barbara hopes that children’s experiences with screen media support and enhance their development, and that they are protected from exploitation and harm.

Barbara has served as Convenor of the Classification Review Board (1994-2001), Chair of the ABC’s National Advisory Council, and on the Children’s Program Committee (Australian Broadcasting Tribunal). She is Honorary CEO of the Australian Council on Children and the Media. Her long and distinguished service to community, children and media as received recognition with an Order of Australia for service to the arts (1986), a Churchill Fellow (1989), and South Australia’s Senior Australian of the Year (2004).
