Dr Jin Lee

Dr Jin Lee is a media sociologist, exploring the question of “How do people make their own lives in social media pop cultures?” Jin researches meanings, aspects, and practices of media intimacies in various media cultures with a particular focus on the Asia Pacific region, including the emerging cultural phenomenon of ‘child stars’ in social media. Her role in the Centre will look at how children are curated and presented in the form of cultural artifacts in social media, what socio-economic and cultural conditions are involved here, how media entertainment industries like K-pop industry evolve and further shape the broader social media ecologies. Through her research, it is her hope to develop our understanding of children in social media pop cultures and enhance their wellbeing, advising the industry and the government on this matter.
